Vegan Brand Turns Old Shoes into Playgrounds - VegNews

Canadian vegan brand Native Shoes recently launched The Remix Project—an initiative to repurpose materials from old shoes into playground flooring. By December 31, the brand aims to collect 10,000 “well-loved” Native Shoes—which can be dropped off at its Gastown neighborhood store in Vancouver or its San Jose location in California—in exchange for a 10-percent discount toward a new pair. “This initiative is special—giving back to the Vancouver community, where Native Shoes was born and calls home,” Native Shoes President Kyle Housman said. “We look forward to working with the Vancouver Park Board to identify areas that would benefit most from playgrounds where communities can gather to keep it [light] and have fun.” The first playground that will utilize materials made from recycled Native Shoes is expected to open next summer. The Remix Project is the first step in Native Shoes’ journey to remove waste from all of its processes to become 100-percent “sustainably life-cycle” managed by 2023.
