Short suit pants: Former fashion faux pas now en vogue - The Athletic

For most of fashion history, the look elicited laughter, ridicule and time-honored jokes.

“Where’s the flood?”

“You goin’ clamming?”

For a fresh-faced generation of NHL players, however, a former fashion faux pas has become all the rage. Short suit pants are the in-look with most of the Coyotes, and professional athletes across all sports are embracing them, too.

“You used to get crucified for wearing them,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. “Now you’re cool.”

Tighter fitting pants have accompanied the move to shorter inseams and outseams. Nobody has pinpointed where the look originated, but celebrities and average Joes alike have taken to the style, and it spans all manner of male pants.

LeBron James wore a suit with the short, above-the-knee, pants to Game 1 of this year’s NBA Finals. Pitbull’s short pants were a talking point at the World Cup opening ceremonies in 2016, and singer Pharrell...
