Hundreds of economically disadvantaged kids across the Valley now have new shoes and socks.
It’s all part of the Caritas Service Group’s annual Shoe Fit and Feed Service Project which took place in McAllen on Nov. 3. This project was started by the Caritas Service Group with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church about eight to ten years ago.
According to Mario Rodriguez, Caritas Service Group member, about 1500 kids received new shoes on Saturday.
The McAllen and Edinburg Rotary Clubs came together at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church to give the shoes away. Six Rotary Clubs along with the Salvation Army, as well as other service groups, raised over twenty-two thousand dollars to buy shoes, socks and related items to this event.
